Groundcherry:

·         three most common species are creeping perennial weeds in pastures, gardens, cultivated fields, waste areas; one species is summer annual

·         much branched stems, yellow-white flowers and small berry fruit enclosed in papery "chinese lantern" structure; plants not spiny

o         Wright’s Groundcherry , Cutleaf Groundcherry:

§         is a summer annual plant, with mostly smooth leaves with toothed margins

§         Grows 12-24” tall in sort of small tree shape

§         Can reseed abundantly

§         Stems may be green or purplish

§         Leaves are triangular with pointed lobes

§         Flowers are almost entirely yellow—no obvious alternate center color as in smooth groundcherry and Virginia groundcherry

§         Fruit globe-shaped, often with purplish veins
