· has very slender leaves held more upright than buckhorn plantain
· inflorescence spike is longer than buckhorn plantain, and prominent leafy bracts protrude beyond flowers
· inflorescence also has conspicuous white hairs on the bracts
· found on dry, neutral to alkaline soils; can tolerate close mowing
· woolly plantain appears similar, but lacks the prominent bracts found on bracted plantain
