Field Pansy, Field Violet (Viola arvensis)

·         winter annual with oval-shaped leaves with large stipules in the Violaceae (Violet) family

·         flowers usually yellow or yellow and pale blue/lavender like miniature pansies

·         grows 3-10 inches tall, flowering in early to late spring

·         found in open turf (or dormant warm-season turf), cultivated fields and disturbed sites in fertile, well-drained soils

·         can distinguish from field violet which has light blue & white or light blue &  pale yellow flowers and more deeply lobed leaves
