o   very similar to annual blue lettuce in growth habit; also a winter/summer annual

o   leaves end in a narrow, tapering point (arrow-like)

o   flowers tiny, yellow to orange in terminal inflorescences

o   has tan to orange milky sap

o   leaves not spiny on midvein underneath, as with prickly lettuce

o   native to Missouri; found in open woods, roadsides; not usually a serious weed problem
